Getting to know your colleague with cooking team building sessions

Thursday 29th January 2015

Working within a team can pose a number of problems with clashing personalities and different ways of working but likewise can make for exciting dynamics which can ultimately heighten departmental performance. The best working teams are those that do not work as individuals but as co-dependent units which use each person’s competencies to improve over business performance.

Thriving from these various team dynamics can only be achieved with good working and personal relationships. A team member should know how their colleague works and thinks when performing job tasks as well as how they may react on an emotional level in order to fully support their role. This is also the case in reverse.  It may be easier to identify how a member of the team works as part of their work schedule but if often vastly more difficult to ‘get to know’ somebody on a more personal level.

One way to improve working and personal relationships to form stronger team bonds is through cooking team building sessions. These sessions offer an excellent opportunity to work as part of a team in a less formal situation – all working towards the same end result…a delicious meal to be shared and enjoyed! Departments can be split into groups that may not usually work together, enabling better relations to be built. During this time, team members can talk and find out a little more about a colleague on a personal level which can only improve working partnerships once back in the office environment. Cooking team building sessions can be given a competitive edge to make for a more exciting day and also giving individuals to show more of their personality in such situations. Cooking team building sessions are usually half day sessions with a sit down meal at the end of the session to taste and complement each other on all of the team’s hard work.
